 Restorative Yoga Classes

Yoga For the Rest of Us

Restorative yoga classes are designed to move us away from doing toward simply being, in increasingly deeper states of relaxation and wellbeing. The classes are gentle and slow-paced, fewer poses are held for longer periods of time than in standard yoga classes. A variety of props- blankets, blocks and bolsters- are used to support the body and ease it into a state of deep comfort. This soothes and quiets the mind as well.

We live in busy, tumultuous times. Our bodies are frequently in a state of fight or flight, putting our nervous system in overdrive which leaves us feeling drained and depleted. In restorative yoga class, our bodies move into a state of rest and digest which is the opposite of fight or flight. Switching our nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic, allows our bodies to slow down and repair from the inside out.  These classes are appropriate for all, including those with health challenges, high stress levels or injuries, no experience necessary.

Benefits

  • Quiets the mind

  • Strengthens immune system
  • Elevates mood

I discovered this gentle yoga style over twenty years ago when looking for relief from unrelenting back pain. The energy, resiliency and well-being generated by the practice has changed my entire approach to self-care. Gratitude for this transformation has inspired me to share it with all who want to accelerate their own healing and equanimity. I continue to be amazed at the power yoga has to amplify our innate qualities of clarity, compassion and wholeness.

The yoga pose is not the goal. The goal is to create space where you were once stuck. To appreciate your body and become aware of the mind and the noise it creates. To make peace with who and how you are.
